Chi Kung for Healing

What is Chi Kung for Healing™?

Chi Kung, or Qigong, originated in China around 5,000 years ago. Qigong is made up of two Chinese characters Qi (or chi) and Gong (or Kung). Qi (pronounced chi) is the “vital energy” or “life force.” Master Mantak Chia describes Qi as "the glue between our body, mind, and spirit, the link between our perception of the inner and outer worlds." Qi may also be thought of as electricity. It can't be seen, yet it can most certainly be felt. Gong has several meanings such as art, skill, work, exercise, manipulation, and self-discipline. When you combine these two into qigong, it stands for “cultivation of energy.”

In traditional Chinese medicine (which works within the framework of preventing illness or injury versus providing care only afterwards), an exercise should consist of two equally important parts, the “inner” and “outer” aspects of exercise. The inner aspect influences the meridians (the energy pathways of the body) and the organs, while the outer aspect influences the muscles, joints, ligaments and bones. Qigong can accomplish both missions.

Chi Kung exercise benefits every body

“Chi Kung stimulates the mind, lifts the spirit and strengthens the body.” --- Master Dennis Kelly

There are literally hundreds, if not thousands, of different qigong exercises. Many of these are integrated into whole systems, usually called by an evocative and poetic name such as Soaring Crane Qigong, Wild Goose Qigong, etc. But all involve some sort of special breathing, specific movements and an inner visualization of where the energy is focused or moving. At the The Pilates Center of Kona we do not subscribe to any particular style. We teach Chi Kung for Healing™ that incorporates a variety of techniques taught by a host of different “Master” instructors.

“Where your attention goes…your energy flows.”---Anonymous

Through qigong, we can produce qi more efficiently, store qi more effectively, and circulate our qi more smoothly. In addition, we can circulate our qi to particular places or organs in our body to bath those areas in healing, revitalizing energy.
