Group Classes Offered...
At The Pilates Center of Kona and GYROTONIC Kona we understand that every client's needs, goals, abilities, and pace of learning are different, therefore all of our Equipment-Based Group classes are "leveled" to ensure a safe and effective experience for every BODY!

Fundamental Pilates Equipment Standing side splits on the Reformer

Class length: 60 minutes; Class size: 3 - 5

This level is designed for those who have just completed their New Student Intro Private Lessons or for individuals who have joined our Studio with prior Pilates Reformer experience. Fundamental Classes are also a choice for those students who like to work at a slower pace, focusing on mastering the basics.

The instructor leads the group through the fundamental exercises on the Reformer, Cadillac, Chair, and Barrels (based upon availability) along with matwork building initial strength to the core while working on the principles of awareness, balance, activation, alignment, and control. You will need to know the Fundamental curriculum before moving on.

Prerequisite: We suggest beginning with a series of 6 Private New Student Lessons (3 minimum are required) and permission from the instructor.

Best results will be experienced when at least two lessons are attended per week.

Intermediate/Advanced Pilates EquipmentPilates CIrcuit - for the experience Pilates student - we use all of the equipment in the studio!

Class length: 60 minutes; Class size: 3 - 6

Participants of classes at these increasingly advanced levels must be in complete control of the basic principles of alignment, possess dynamic stabilization, have few physical limitations, and experience with the Fundamental and Intermediate curriculum on all apparatus. These classes focus on continuing the development of core stability and strength, while the adding more and more challenging exercises at a quicker pace to these increasingly challenging repertoires.

Prerequisite: Permission from the instructor.

A consistent practice of at least twice per week is required due to the rigors of this class. (GYROTONIC training is considered to meet this requirement as is GYROKINESIS.)

GYROTONIC®  For Your Inner Dancer

Gyrotonic Application for Dancers

Class length: 60 minutes; Class size: 3

NEW! (watch a dancer class in action here)

Come move your body, have fun, find your own inner rhythm, and unlock your unique Inner Dancer. Join us for a class that will leave you smiling, sweating, and dancing as you walk out of the studio! Plan to have some serious fun and get in great shape while doing so. (All set to awesome music!)

In these classes, Laura introduces movements and experiences that EVERYONE can do (no dance experience required). These classes are GREAT for deepening your connection to both your physical and energetic center, for developing attention to the present moment through movement, and for unlocking your own unique inner dancer. We “dance” to music while using the GYROTONIC Pulley-Tower to create body awareness, core strength and alignment, harmony and fluidity with grace and beauty, opening to the present, while staying grounded in the movement moment.

Laura has created this unique program after completing her training in  the GYROTONIC Applications for Dancers program, taught and created by renowned Contemporary choreographer Adrianna Thompson and World-Class Contemporary Dance instructor Miriam Barbosa (both of whom are incredible Authorized GYROTONIC Master Trainers), and has combined it with her years of GYROTONIC and GYROKINESIS training, dancing Hula professionally, as well as her years of teaching and creating award–winning contemporary Martial Arts dance “forms.”

While no prior dance experience is required, we do ask that you begin a basic GYROTONIC program prior to joining this course, as those basic principles will be used throughout these classes. GYROKINESIS experience is recommended, but not required. Participation in class is by instructor permission. Talk with Laura if you’d like to join us! Call the studio at 329-0005. You'll be glad you did.

Can't make it to this class as scheduled, yet you are yearning to do some gyro-dancing? Talk with Laura about scheduling a class to suit your schedule. (It never hurts to ask for what you want.)

NEWS:  These Dancer classes are SUCH a big hit that new classes will be added. Email the studio with your requests for days and times.

GYROTONIC®  Independent Sessions

Session length: 60 minutes

GYROTONIC® exercise is meant to be a personal practice or journey, not just a class one shows up to weekly. These independent sessions are designed so the experienced client is able to work at their own pace in the studio using the GYROTONIC® Pulley/Tower, practicing the movements learned in private lessons and/or group Trio sessions. It is a wonderful way for you to OWN your GYROTONIC® experience and feel the creative joy of movement in your body. We encourage independent workouts for optimal results in conjunction with your regular GYROTONIC® sessions.

Independent Sessions are performed with each client focusing on their own program, their own pace, their own bodies, and their own goals. Sessions are performed "to the symphony of one's breath" without conversation. This allows your practice to move to a deeper experiential level. A certified trainer is always on site during these sessions.

Prerequisites for Independent Sessions:
1. Active client at GYROTONIC® Kona consistently attending a minimum of one Private or one Group Pulley/Tower Class per week for continue to refine the technique of your practice.

2. Completion of a series (number varies with each individual) of GYROTONIC® Private sessions geared specifically to prepare you for Independent Sessions (you'll review proper exercise technique, exercise flow, equipment safety, set up, and fill out your own personalized workout plan). Think "rehearsal and audition."

3. Approval from Studio Director (Laura Crittendon) to begin Independent Sessions.

4. Continued participation in a minimum of one weekly instructor-led session. If a client only attends trios, scheduling a private lesson every 4 to 6 weeks is suggested in order to continue to grow and deepen your personal practice.

Independent sessions require an appointment and are available during scheduled Independent Session times only, sessions are 1 hour, space is limited, schedule will vary depending on the studio schedule. Tower preference not guaranteed. Specialized equipment usage is not available during these sessions unless the student has received specific private instruction and approval to train on a particular piece of equipment, AND the specialized equipment is not in use for a private lesson. Independent sessions will not be available during instructor-led group GYROTONIC classes or specific teacher trainings.

Please note:
the instructor on site may be conducting a private lesson or conducting a class in the adjoining room during the independent session.
